Becoming a parent is one of life biggest transitions. Although modern media portrays the time as joyous – with bouncing, smiling babies (who never cry!), white sheets and bikini bodies, it is actually a period of enormous change and stress.
During the perinatal period, changes occur in many areas – your intimate relationships, body, hormone levels, social life, sleep (or lack there of!), work and sense of self. For many, these changes lead to feelings of distress, anxiety and depression.
If this sounds like you, it can be really helpful to get some psychological support, and the earlier the better. Support can help you to enjoy the period from pregnancy and into your baby’s first year, manage stress and develop a close attachment to your baby.
